A2005 Smart Card Readers

Product Summary

The A2005 combines magnetic stripe technology with advanced SmartCard features in a weather resistant case. The presence of both technologies in a single housing makes the A2005 card reader an excellent choice for institutions needing readers for their current system, but desiring to upgrade to a smart card system in the future.

The A2005 has a convenient user interface that includes an alpha-numeric keypad with a concealed beeper. User Prompts are displayed on a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). This LCD is equipped with a built-in darkness sensor which automatically illuminates the display under low light conditions.

The A2005 SmartCard Reader allows User Selectable Personal Identification Numbers (PINs). These PINs add security against unauthorized use of lost cards. The A2005 Smart Card Reader accepts these user selectable PINs in the online or off-line mode.

The Access 1000 Card Readers can be used with the following applications:

Personal Identification Numbers (PINs)

The use of a magnetic stripe card or smart card can require the entry of a Personal Identification Number (PIN). This PIN number protects the user from unauthorized use of lost cards. The numeric PIN is keyed after card insertion. The PIN capability can be disabled if PINs are not required

PINs may be from two to eight digits in length. The A2005 allows cardholders to select their own PINs. These user selectable PINs function online or off-line. All transfer and storage of PIN numbers is encrypted for additional security.

Dual Card Technology

Using Dual card technology, the A2005 supports sites where both SmartCard and magnetic stripe cards exist.

When transitioning from the magnetic stripe technology to the SmartCard technology, a cost effective migration device is required. The A2005 can be purchased with the magnetic stripe reader enabled and the SmartCard reader disabled. The reader can be upgraded for SmartCard capability at any time.
