P2005 Printer Control Reader

The P2005 Printer Control Reader helps reduce and recover the costs associated with laser printers and their related supplies. Used with Diebold's CS Print application, the P2005 can be used to debit the cost of pages printed from a user's pre-paid account. The reader is connected to a serial port on a PC workstation or server, charges are calculated based on page counts and the cost for each print job is displayed to the user for approval. When a specific job is selected and approved, the associated costs are deducted from the patron's account.

The P2005 can also be used in conjunction with CS Launch to authorize, track and control PC applications such as Internet browses. CS Launch will allow the initialization of specific workstation applications during the time a smart card with the proper authorization levels is inserted, allowing control of Internet access, site viewing restrictions and time limits.

Simple operation
The full-featured user interface includes a 16-key membrane alpha-numeric keypad with a concealed beeper to provide audible prompts and feedback. The beeper can also be configured to notify user of inactivity, reminding them to retrieve their card. The keypad supports the use of Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) to enhance card security. User prompts are clearly displayed on a single line liquid crystal display (LCD). An integral darkness sensor automatically illuminates the display when ambient light is low. Time out options can be configured to end a transaction after a given period of time.

Remote configuration
Remote configuration from the host system allows real-time centralized control of decentralized readers. The host, for example can transmit changes in access parameters or reconfigure user prompts, including optional language downloads where supported by the host. A concealed tamper switch in the P2005 protects the reader by notifying the host of a security breach.

Tracking and reporting
The P2005 enables the Diebold host system to track individual usage, making it possible to credit revenues to the proper cost center. Each transaction is logged and can be used to provide individual patron debit or credit account reports. Each account can be programmed to support interdepartmental charge plans, debit or credit plans, credit limits, usage restrictions by location and negative balances.

Configuration

The P2005 interfaces to the CS Gold System using a serial cable to the client workstation or print server serial communication port. CS Print or CS Launch work in conjunction with a Diebold card system to debit accounts, verify entitlement and track transactions.
